Current activity as measured by our Sumburgh Head magnetometer.
AuroraWatch Shetland issues its own aurora alerts via Twitter and Telegram. Please note that these alerts are currently in test phase. More details on our blog. The alerts have slightly different meanings to the main AuroraWatch UK alerts:
|Green||No significant activity||Aurora is unlikely to be visible by eye or on camera from Shetland.|
|Yellow||Minor geomagnetic activity||Aurora likely to be visible on camera from Shetland.|
|Amber||Amber alert: aurora likely||Aurora is likely to be visible by eye from Shetland.|
|Red||Red alert: strong aurora is likely||Aurora is likely to be clearly visible by eye from Shetland.|
These alert meanings and levels may be tweaked based on user feedback.
